Short answer

Choose by where your team already works, then test. ChatGPT Business and Claude Team standard seats both list at $25 per user a month, or $20 billed annually. Gemini comes inside Google Workspace, from $7 per user a month on an annual plan. All three business tiers say they don’t train on your data by default. Then test two for two weeks.

Key takeaways

  • ChatGPT Business: $25 per seat monthly or $20 annually, Premium seats $125 or $100, minimum two seats (OpenAI Help Center, checked 23 September 2026).
  • Claude Team: $25 per seat monthly or $20 annually, Premium $125 or $100, for teams of 2 to 150 (Anthropic pricing page).
  • Google Workspace Business plans include Gemini in Gmail from $7 per user a month on an annual plan, and Gemini in Docs and Meet from $14.
  • Business tiers of all three say your content isn’t used for training by default. Personal plans are a different product.

Owners ask me which one is best as if there’s a single answer. There isn’t, and the question costs more time than the choice deserves. The three products are closer than the arguments online suggest. What separates them for a small business is price structure, where your team already spends its day, and what the vendor promises about your data. All three are checkable on the vendors’ own pages, which is where every number below comes from.

How much do ChatGPT, Claude and Gemini cost for a business?

As of 23 September 2026, ChatGPT Business and Claude Team standard seats both cost $25 per user a month, or $20 billed annually, with premium seats at $125 or $100. Google Workspace includes Gemini: Business Starter is $7 per user a month on an annual plan, Standard $14 and Plus $22.

Two notes on that table. OpenAI says a ChatGPT Business subscription doesn’t include API usage, which is billed separately, so if you plan to build on the model later that’s a second line item. And Google’s Workspace prices were showing introductory discounts for the first three months when checked. The figures above are the list prices after the discount ends.

Should a Google Workspace business just use Gemini?

Start there, because you may already be paying for it. Google’s pricing page lists the Gemini assistant in Gmail and the Gemini app on Business Starter, and Gemini in Gmail, Docs and Meet on Business Standard. If your team lives in Gmail and Docs, test what you have before buying a second tool.

The case for adding ChatGPT or Claude alongside is when your team needs heavier writing, analysis or longer documents than the built-in assistant handles well for your work. That’s a judgement you make on your own tasks, not on a review site. The same logic runs the other way: a Microsoft shop should look at what its existing licences include before adding anything.

Which AI tool is safest for company data?

The business tier of any of them, much more than the choice between them. OpenAI says it doesn’t train on ChatGPT Business workspace data. Anthropic lists no model training on Team content by default. Google says Gemini Enterprise data isn’t used to train its models. On personal plans, ChatGPT and Claude both list training as opt-out.

If you handle patient information, the question changes. Anthropic lists a HIPAA-ready offering on its Enterprise plan, and HHS guidance says any cloud vendor handling electronic health information for a covered entity needs a signed business associate agreement. Ask each vendor for one in writing before any patient data goes in. A pricing page is not an agreement.

What about personal plans like Claude Pro or Google AI Pro?

They’re cheaper per person and built for individuals. Anthropic lists Claude Pro at $20 a month, or $17 a month billed annually, with Max from $100. Google lists Google AI Pro at $19.99 a month. The catch for a business is control. Personal plans have no admin console, the account belongs to the employee, and both OpenAI and Anthropic list training on content as opt-out rather than off. When that person leaves, their prompts, files and history leave with them. For anyone touching client work, the business seat is the cheaper choice over a year.

How do you test which one works for your team?

Run the same five real tasks through two tools for two weeks, with the same people. Pick tasks from your own week: a client email, a proposal draft, a document summary, a spreadsheet question, a policy rewrite. Score each output on whether you’d send it with light edits. The winner on your work is the answer.

  1. Pick two tools. If you already pay for Google Workspace or Microsoft 365, one of them is what you already have.
  2. Choose five tasks from the real week, and two or three people who do them.
  3. Run each task in both tools. Same instructions, same source material, no personal accounts.
  4. Score every output: send as is, send after light edits, or rewrite. Write the score down.
  5. After two weeks, buy seats for the tool that won, for the people who used it. Add seats when someone has a named task, not before.

Does the choice matter as much as it seems?

Less than getting the team to use whichever one you pick. A tool that three people use well beats a better tool that nobody opens. The model you choose this year will be updated or overtaken within months, and all three vendors rename plans often enough that this page is set to be re-checked every 30 days. The habits your team builds, the rules you write and the tasks you assign carry over to whatever comes next.

Questions people ask

Is ChatGPT or Claude cheaper for a business?

Neither, on standard seats. As of 23 September 2026 both list $25 per user per month billed monthly, or $20 billed annually, with premium seats at $125 or $100. Check both vendors’ pages before buying, because plans change often.

Is Gemini included in Google Workspace?

Yes, on the Business plans. Google’s pricing page lists the Gemini assistant in Gmail on Business Starter, from $7 per user a month on an annual plan, and Gemini in Gmail, Docs and Meet on Business Standard, from $14.

Do ChatGPT, Claude and Gemini train on business data?

Their business tiers say no by default. OpenAI says it doesn’t train on ChatGPT Business workspace data, Anthropic lists no training on Team content by default, and Google says Gemini Enterprise data isn’t used to train its models. Personal plans differ.

Can a small business use more than one AI tool?

Yes, but start with one per task. Two tools doubles the rules to write and the accounts to manage. Many businesses keep the assistant built into their email and documents, then add one other tool for the people who need it.

Which AI tool is HIPAA compliant?

No tool is compliant by itself. HHS guidance requires a signed business associate agreement with any cloud vendor handling electronic health information. Anthropic lists a HIPAA-ready offering on Claude Enterprise. Get the agreement in writing from whichever vendor you choose.
